Digging

Snow, snow. Go Away.

As soon as the snow on the ground begins to thaw, we get hit with another inch or two. I am so ready for this winter to be over–especially seeing as how I just got a lead on a swimming hole.

If you read my blog, you know that I am new to the hobby of metal detecting. Not new to the hobby of historical recovery, but new to the hobby of metal detecting. With that being said, I’ve never had the pleasure of searching a swimming hole. From what I can read on all the metal detecting forums, swimming holes are a big deal.

Anyway, this all started when I received a comment on one of my social networking posts from Howard Hewitt from DigFellas on Travel Channel. I must admit that before performing a thorough google background check, I had never heard of him or the show. (Sorry, Howard.) But when I did my search, I happened upon their older you-tube videos. (Which I recommend.)

In one of their videos, they talked about old-timers having all the good leads on old dumps and swimming holes. AND so, my uncle being a young old-timer. (Sorry, Uncle Bob.) I sent him a text asking if he knew of any old swimming holes in our neck of the woods. Well, he never texted me back. (Uncle Bob hates those darned cellular phones, anyway. )

Well today, he found me in the office and told me about an old swimming hole just down the road from my house. Now, keep in mind, this is the same Uncle Bob who just recently told me that there were about a dozen 1920s radial streetlamps buried in his backyard.

Needless to say, I am ready to hit that swimming hole and share all my discoveries with you. Who knows, maybe I’ll find my first ring. Fingers Crossed.
